Marmara (Silivri) Cezaevi’nde tutuklu bulunan Hatay Milletvekili Ş. Can Atalay, Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi Başkanı Numan Kurtulmuş’a bir faks göndererek, Filistin Devlet Başkanı Mahmut Abbas’a iletilmek üzere bir selamlama metni iletti.
Atalay, mesajında, Filistin halkıyla dayanışma içinde olduğunu vurgulayarak, Filistin'in özgürlük mücadelesinin Türkiye’de ve dünyada eşitlik ve özgürlük için mücadele edenlere ilham kaynağı olduğunu ifade etti. Atalay, Mahmut Abbas’ı TBMM’de karşılayamamanın üzüntüsünü dile getirirken, Filistin halkının direncine ve özgürlük mücadelesine olan desteğini belirtti.
Atalay’ın ilettiği mesajda şu ifadeler yer aldı:
“Sayın Mahmut Abbas, Filistin Devlet Başkanı,
Sizi Meclis’te karşılamak, ellerinizi sıkmak, Filistin halkıyla dayanışmamızı, azim ve mücadelenize saygımızı, hayranlığımızı doğrudan iletmek isterdim. Ancak bu görevimi, Anayasamızın açık hükümlerine karşın seçilmiş bir milletvekilinin cezaevinde tutulması nedeniyle ne yazık ki yerine getiremiyorum.
(...) Filistin halkına selamlarımızı götürün. Ülkelerine ve özgürlüklerine olan bağlılıklarının ve ısrarlarının aynı zamanda bizler için, dünya halkları için ne kadar kıymetli olduğunu bir kez daha söyleyin.”
Atalay, mesajında ayrıca, Filistin topraklarında devam eden soykırımcı savaşa karşı uluslararası dayanışmanın önemine dikkat çekti ve bu dayanışmanın Filistin halkının direncine direnç katmasını temenni ettiğini belirtti.

I kindly request the necessary actions to be taken for the salutation text below to be presented to the attention of Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine.
Dear Mr. Mahmoud Abbas,
President of Palestine,
I would have liked to meet you at the Grand National Assembly, shake your hand, and convey, in person, our solidarity with the Palestinian people, and our respect and admiration to your determination and struggle.
However, I unfortunately cannot fulfil this duty because, as an elected member of parliament, and against the explicit provisions of our Constitution, I am being held in prison.
Today, our Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, hosts you to declare to the entire world, the most powerful opposition of our people to this genocidal war. It is my heartfelt wish that this meeting brings a strong contribution to the international solidarity that opposes the genocide.
Dear Mr. Abbas,
We follow the path of those who joined the rightful cause of the Palestinian people not only with their words but also with their actions, and we always hold the Palestinian cause in our minds, in our hearts, and always at the top of our agenda.
The Palestinian people’s struggle for their freedom and the sacrifices they have made are, like they have been across the world, a source of strength and inspiration to those who struggle for equality and freedom in Türkiye, too.
Today, on your lands, in Gaza, one of the gravest genocidal wars in the history of humankind is taking place. Opposition to this genocidal war waged by the Netanyahu government, carried out with disregard to all rules and laws, is now rising from all corners of the world.
It is my wish that rising international solidarity will add further strength to the resistance of the Palestinian people.
It is also my belief that the freedom of Palestine will be significant in opening the gates of peace, equality and freedom in the Middle East.
Give our regards to the Palestinian people. Tell them once again how valuable their loyalty and persistence for their country and freedom is for us, and for all the peoples of the world.
